Key verses 10,11: ‘And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord’.
Good tidings of great joy…We have heard these words so often each Christmas time and we can thank the Lord for the measure of joy that these words have brought. The greatest blessing however lies in the true meaning of God’s Word, when it unfolds before our eyes.
Many people are despondent and ask where are these tidings of great joy amongst the dire circumstances around us? I thank God that we can look back at many great sinners who have become mighty saints because of these words.
We can thank God for the tens of thousands of people who have been healed- who would never have been healed had Christ not come into this world. Praise God for those who have been delivered from the shackles of sin through the delivering power of the blood of Christ our Saviour.
Yet there is still so much sorrow and sadness in this world and we can rightly ask: when will these words become completely true in every sense of the word?
Therefore I would say that this is the most opportune time to say them, for there has never been a time when the world has needed them more….
Jesus said He did not come for the righteous but that sinners would come to repentance.
