Sermon from Pastor F.W.C. Neser B467
Scripture reading is from Habakkuk 3
Key verses are v 18,19 –
The prophet is describing a scene of judgement. He saw things that made his heart tremble and his knees to shake. Only the Holy Spirit could have inspired him to describe the sensation he experienced because in no human terms could he have done so. And yet, in spite of that, this is the triumph of faith and the victory we have in God.
The prophet saw what was surely going to happen and still he could say: ‘I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.’ And this will be the heart of this message today.
The very well known preacher Steven Olford wrote a book some years ago : ‘Heart cry for Revival’ and on ps62,63 of his book he has the following comment on this verse- he quotes Dr Campbell Morgan who said that verse is the greatest and most priceless passage in the whole of prophetic poetry. He points out that to translate this passage literally from the Hebrew would almost startle us…..
What a comfort we have in times like these, where the heathen are raging against God’s people but God will drive them asunder! How can man stand up against Almighty God?
